Organization raises $5,000 in Fireman’s Challenge
The Delta Alpha chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity met its goal and raised more than $5,000 for the Washington Hospital Burn Center at its second annual Fireman’s Challenge last weekend.
Each of GW’s eight sororities came out in full force Saturday to participate in a series of fire-themed competitions, such as a fire hose push, a tug of war and a slip-n-slide. The Delta Gamma sorority won the challenge.
“We had 300 people out on University Yard in beautiful weather having fun, working together and raising money for a great cause,” said Pi Kappa Alpha member John Galmiche, a freshman and the event’s organizer.
The D.C. Fire Department provided equipment and personnel who, along with Pi Kappa Alpha members, helped run the event. Last year the fraternity raised $3,000 for the nonprofit D.C. Firefighters’ Burn Foundation.
