Anchor Bowl raises money for Service for Sight charity
Anchor Bowl, a weeklong fundraising event hosted by the Delta Gamma sorority, raised about $8,775 for Service for Sight. The national charity for glaucoma and eye screenings trains seeing dogs for the blind and supplies glasses to those who cannot afford such services.
Members from the 13 fraternities of the Interfraternity Council and Delta Gamma members participated in the event.
“This is one week in the entire year when the entire Greek community comes together for a single cause, and I cannot express the satisfaction and appreciation we have for the members of these organizations,” said senior and Anchor Bowl director Jessica DeSimone.
Anchor Bowl unofficially kicked off at a separate event, the Hippothon, a dance marathon to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, held last week in the Marvin Center.
Throughout the week, Anchor Bowl also included a penny war – in which Greek-letter organizations competed to raise the most money in coins; skits; a fundraising night at Baja Fresh; and a culminating seven-on-seven football tournament on the National Mall.
