Hosed. If there’s anything to say about GW’s seeding it is that they really got screwed. If you haven’t figured it out, GW was seeded eighth in the number one number one seed’s bracket. So GW is, in essence, the 32nd best team in the nation. After being ranked sixth for most of the year, GW got dropped 26 spots (kind of) and are playing a North Carolina team in North Carolina in the first round. And if they beat UNC-Wilmington, they have to play Duke.
After going undefeated in the A-10, GW could not get anything better than an eight seed. It is tough to say what the Colonials can do next season. They will probably need to go out of conference and get stronger out-of-conference opponents. Going 16-1 in the league clearly isn’t enough.
One redeeming factor: they can get Duke.
But as Coach Hobbs was telling me at the selection viewing, they can’t look past Wilmington. They don’t know much about the squad yet but they need to beat the very quick and good team.
Wilmington beat Wyoming, Butler, Northwestern and Drexel in the regular season. They lost to Wisconsin and split with George Mason.
We’ll be doing more in depth analysis tomorrow.
