JEC Nominees

On Friday night the SA Senate Rules Committee passed three of SA President Audai Shakour’s nominees to sit on the Joint Elections Committee. The three possible JEC members will go before the full senate this Tuesday to be considered for confirmation.

The three nominees from Shakour are freshman Alex Stegmaier, sophomore Ryan Sullivan and junior Elizabeth Fox. Fox was on the special JEC which oversaw the constitutional referendum. Sullivan represented the sJEC in front of the student court when they ruled that the results of the referendum were invalid.

While the nominees passed with scrutiny in the question and answer session from some rules committee members, the full senate still must vote on the nominees before they officially become members of the JEC.

Once the JEC is fully in place, which would require just one of the nominees to be passed for the five-member election oversight body to have quorum, an election date can be decided and the process of campaigning will most likely begin. With no JEC and the election approximately four weeks away, most candidates said they are just eager to get the election season started.

The Marvin Center Governing Board and Program Board already appointed their representatives to the JEC two weeks ago. The MCGB appointee is senior Timothy Ziese and senior Kathryn Santo will be representing Program Board.

Stay tuned to the SA Blog for news Tuesday night on the confirmation process of the three possible JEC members.
