Here are some notes from the first half of play here at the MCI Center.
- Maureece Rice has loudly announced his arrival as a primetime player at GW. In the first half, Rice carried the team with 12 points, some excellent decisions on offense and some outstanding man defense. He is quickly turning into one of GW’s top players.
- Pops Mensah-Bonsu is officially back. Logging 7 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks and taking at least 4 charges is playing outstanding basketball. He needs to continue doing so in order for the Colonials to win this game
- Mike Hall logged his second foul with nearly 10 minutes remaining in the half. Thankfully for Colonials fans, Coach Karl Hobbs kept him in the game. Playing his usual brand of great defense and rebounding, Hall – with 7 points and 5 rebounds – has helped the Colonials immeasurably thus far.
- The Colonials are back to playing their great brand of full court defense thus far absent this season. GW has held the Terps to 34 percent shooting.
GW is shooting 29 percent from the floor and still leads by 5 at halftime. Look for more shots to start falling for both teams in the second half. If anything earth-shattering happens we’ll be here to bring it to you.
