I hope everyone in the GW basketball world is getting ready for a very exciting week. In case you’ve been living under a rock (or just don’t care), the GW men’s team will be playing the University of Maryland in the BB&T Classic tomorrow at the MCI Center. The arena is located at the corner of 7th and F streets and is easily accessible by the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro stop.
Fans who can make it to the game will be treated to two top 25 teams that are excited to play eachother. The verbal sprawling has been going on between the players through media outlets and it should prove to be a great match up. Last year, GW upended the Terps in what was the pivotal point for the Colonials during their first NCAA run during the Karl Hobbs regime. Every time GW has played Maryland, win or lose, T.J. Thompson has led the attack. Should be interesting to see who takes the baton for GW this time.
On Wednesday at the Smith Center, No. 1 Tennessee comes to town. GW coach Joe McKeown and Pat Summitt have a long standing relationship which brings the Vols to Foggy Bottom on a somewhat regular basis. Tennessee’s traveling contingent will take up a bunch of tickets but get out to the game to see some very fundamental basketball.
