Court to hear Election Mismanagement Case

The student court has issued an injuction on the results of the special elections to be certified by the Joint Elections Committee. The court will hear arguements in the case Roos v. JEC Tuesday evening.

Paul Roos, a student, filed a complaint against the election oversight body Wednesday saying his constitutional rights had been infringed because the JEC had not sufficiently promoted the election. He based the complaint on gross mismanagement of the election.

The court decided on Thursday to hear the case. To prevent confusion among the student body, the court has restrcited the JEC from certifying the results of the election, which will conclude at 9 p.m. Thursday. If the case had not been accepted by the court than the JEC would have counted the ballots tonight and announced the results. Because the court has issued an injunction on the certification, the JEC will not be allowed to certify the results.

The JEC will be counting the ballots tonight, the JEC will not have the power to certify those results, however.
