Senators draft Impeachment Articles

The Hatchet has learned that some SA Senators have drafted articles of impeachment against SA President Audai Shakour.

The eleven articles outline reasons why they believe Shakour should be removed from office. They include two articles related to recent sexual harassment charges which Shakour denied are true over the weekend. (Shakour denies sexual harassment charges, says he will stay on as SA President)

For the Senate to impeach Shakour, ten senators must sign impeachment legislation. If signed, the SA holds an impeachment hearing in which chief judge of the student court presides over a hearing between the Executive and the Senate. Two-thirds of the Senate must vote guilty of impeachment for removal from office to take place.

It is unclear if SA Senators will propose the articles of impeachment at Tuesday night’s Senate meeting, or if Shakour will appear at the meeting.

Other charges listed in the articles of impeachment include failing to appoint nominees to a vacant seat on the Student Court, being the sole signer of monetary transactions, failure to secure payment for Office Assistants and negligence in conduct.
