Hope everyone had a chance to check out our web extra content from The Hatchet today. Eric Roper did a very interesting piece about the IAJ claiming they did not get sufficient funding from the SA for a fundraising event they held Saturday night (Pakistani Fundraiser). This will not be the last time the Hatchet covers this story.
As I mentioned in a blog posting last week, we look for overarching issues within the SA to cover and try to shy away from stories that deal with only a small group of students on campus. The reason we did this article, however, is because Will Donovan suggested that the finance committees unwillingness to fund the IAJ event is indicative of a fiscally conservative finance committee.
The Hatchet will be investigating this claim and have an article in the next week on the broader issue. Jenette is currently working on that story. Monday’s article was a set up for a piece in which we will be looking at student organizations use of co-sponsorship in general this year and finding out if other groups have run into the same types of problems Donovan reported the IAJ did.
Tuesday’s Senate meeting should be interesting, a lot will be going on. Not only will the executive give reports on the SSAC and the campus development survey, but rumor has it that adjunct professors are planning to make an appereance at the meeting to speak about their unionization efforts. Donovan and IAJ members will be present in force at the meeting as well.
