Hobbs speaks!

So the post on GWhoops.com really got me going so this one is for you “GW.” I did attend the Colonial Army event tonight and had a nice conversation with Hobbs. Tomorrow I will be talking to him at length in our annual preseason meeting and I’ll definitely be blogging about that. A few things that coach did stick out in my mind. From previous meetings with Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz, I know that a bunch of those marquee games fell through. In a column I wrote for the Hatchet (Scheduling Success, Sept. 6), I tried to explain that teams do not want to play GW in the Smith Center because they aren’t a guaranteed win. Hobbs echoed my sentiment and I’m glad the fans heard it from him. In addition, I highly doubt a game with Georgetown will ever go through. Hobbs was correct by saying that it is something the Washington media will demand but the beef between GW and Georgetown is too deep seeded, according to a lot of sources. A game between Georgetown and GW would be unbelievable for the District, as both teams are on the upswing. Keeping a rivalry open with Maryland is also something that cannot be guaranteed. Gary Williams was not happy after GW upset them in the MCI Center last year and said that he doesn’t know how much longer doing a tournament like the BB&T will be worth it for his program. What I think he meant is he doesn’t want to lose to a team like GW because they compete for many of the same fans and are geographical rivals. Who wants to lose to a stupid Atlantic 10 team anyway.

Quick points:
• A game versus UConn or UNC in the MCI Center would be dope. As a Connecticut native, I’d love to see the match up between Jimmy Calhoun and his apprentice. UNC would also be great
• GW in the Sweet 16 would be pretty sweet. The possible locations are Minneapolis, Atlanta, Oakland and Washington. I’d cross off Washington for us but I’d definitely take Atlanta or Oak-town.
