Golf places sixth at A-10 Championships
The GW golf team placed sixth at the A-10 Championships in an 11-team field, while freshman Federico Guzman finished in a tie for fifth place individually. By placing in the top six, Guzman was automatically named to the A-10 All-Conference Team.
As a team, the Colonials shot a combined 914 to finish 19 strokes behind first-place Xavier. It was the Musketeers’ third ever victory at the championship and marked their second victory in three years. Guzman shot a 224 total over the three-round tournament at NCR Country Club South Course near Dayton, Ohio to finish nine strokes behind individual winner Billy Stewart of St. Joseph’s.
Softball ends inaugural season 3-36
The GW softball team finished the season with four losses, two against Rhode Island May 2 and two against No. 16 Massachusetts May 4.
Rhode Island beat GW 7-0 in Game One and 8-1 in Game Two.
GW had a rough day against the Minutewomen, losing18-0 in Game One and 13-0 in Game Two. UMass set the tone with an 11-run first inning in Game One and the Colonials were never able to muster an offense. The shutouts marked the 19th and 20th games this season in which GW failed to score a run.
The Colonials ended their inaugural season with a 3-36 overall record and an 0-16 conference mark.
