The Pennsylvania Valleydawgs selected senior Chris Monroe as the 38th pick in the United States Basketball League draft Tuesday, April 15.
Monroe said he is uncertain if he will spend any time in the semi-pro league. If he did, it would only be after he graduates from GW and it would primarily be to gain exposure for the NBA Draft in June, he said. As a senior, Monroe is automatically entered into the draft pool.
Junior point guard Darnell Miller said he is considering several schools to which he can transfer, but has not made a decision yet as to where he will play next season. With sophomore T.J. Thompson starting at his position this year and two other point guards set to join the Colonials next season, Miller is expected to transfer, but assistant coach Steve Pikiell said Miller has not officially left the program yet.
Thompson is currently wearing casts on his foot and arm, but only as protective measures after “wear and tear” from last season, Pikiell said. Thompson’s roommate, sophomore Tamal Forchion, said he is feeling fine after having surgery to remove a screw from his ankle last month. The forward had a cast removed from his foot last week and said he will gradually resume off-season workouts with the team.
Pikiell said part of GW’s non-conference schedule next season will include road games at University of Texas, University of Charlotte and Old Dominion University and home games against Florida International University and Towson. GW will host the annual Red Auerbach Colonial Classic over Thanksgiving weekend and will play in the BB&T Classic, which will also feature Maryland, Gonzaga and West Virginia universities at the MCI Center. Pikiell said the full schedule, including dates and times still being finialized.
