Twenty female students will bring the issue of homosexuality and the trans-gendered lifestyle to their presentation of the “Vagina Monologues” this weekend. The show, written by Eve Ensler, will take place at the Western Presbyterian Church Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
The “Monologues” traditionally consist of different types of women giving speeches having to do with vaginas, but GW’s production director Allison Curtis said she wanted homosexual issues to be one of the focuses of her show.
Two post-shows will accompany the main production, Friday’s dealing with homosexuality and Saturday’s with trans-gendered and inter-sex issues.
“There wasn’t room to be gay in the ‘Vagina Monologues,'” said Curtis, a sophomore. “(Last year’s show) wasn’t very diverse. I wanted to create something else, something new.”
Curtis said this year’s cast is racially diverse.
Absolute Pleasure Productions, which is sponsoring the show, is not charging for tickets, but donations will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Sexual Minorities Youth Assistance League, among other organizations.
