So maybe the men’s basketball team won’t make it to the conference finals, but GW students could still have the opportunity to travel to the Atlantic 10 Championships.
The winners of the Atlantic 10 Shootout, a conference-wide contest starting this Thursday, will travel to the A-10 Championships to compete in the tournament’s final round.
Each A-10 school will host its own contests during conference games next week. At GW, the top four coed teams will compete at halftime during the LaSalle game. The winners will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the A-10 finals, where they will face competitors from other A-10 schools. The final champion will be awarded $10,000.
Players have 30 seconds to make six shots from different spots around the court. Each shot has a different point value and the team that earns the most points wins.
Players may sign up free of charge. All contestants get free food, T-shirts, radios and samples. They could also win New Balance sneakers.
Jon Broska, assistant director of recreational sports, said the event is a great way to get students to be a part of GW basketball.
These prizes, donated by the sponsors of the event, are different for the men, women, and coed division champions. The winners of the men’s and women’s tournaments get free roundtrip tickets to anywhere in the continental United States.
The preliminary shootout takes place this Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Health and Wellness Center. Students can sign up at the recreation sports office or online through the night of the event.
