The GW athletic department hired Sarah West as the first head coach of the women’s squash team Thursday. The men’s and women’s squash teams, GW’s most recent varsity team additions, will compete in their inaugural seasons this winter in the Health and Wellness Center.
West comes to GW after graduating this past spring from Dartmouth College, where she was a four-year member of the varsity squash team and team captain her senior year. She was also named first team All-Ivy for the past two seasons as well as second-team All-America in 1999 and 2000.
West has no prior coaching experience in squash but she did serve as an assistant coach on the 2002 New Hampshire All-State Girls U13 lacrosse team.
GW hired alumnus Simon Harrington to coach the men’s team in July. Team schedules have not yet been announced.
