The Atlantic 10 Women’s Tournament begins Friday with first-round games at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. All top-five seeds received a first-round bye. The GW women’s basketball team is the No. 2 seed and will play its first game Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
The Colonials will play the winner of the Friday game between seven-seed Duquesne and 10-seed St. Bonaventure, which is a noon game. The Colonials are expected to win, and they have beaten both teams this season. But head coach Joe McKeown said he refuses to overlook these teams.
“You can’t look past anyone or else you’re packing early,” McKeown said.
With a win the Colonials would play a semifinal match Sunday at 4 p.m. The lowest seed they could face is No. 3 Temple.
Temple will play the winner of the No. 6 seed La Salle and No. 11 Fordham game Saturday.
A semifinal match is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m.
On the other side, No. 1 seed Xavier will face either No. 4 seed Dayton or No. 5 seed St. Joseph’s in another semifinal game. The championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday.
Xavier won the tournament last year by beating the Colonials. The Colonials last won the tournament in 1996.
