Despite a school-record 14 wins, after losing in the A-10 Tournament first round the Colonials were not expecting to make the NCAA Tournament. But they did, and they made the most of the opportunity, becoming the first team in school history to win an NCAA game, advancing to the Sweet 16 with a 3-1 victory over George Mason.
In the second round – a year after upsetting then-No. 1 Indiana University – the Colonials could not pull the trick again, falling to the two-time defending champion Hoosiers 4-0 in Bloomington, Ind.
