The GW golf team finished in a fifth-place tie with Xavier at this weekend’s Atlantic 10 men’s championship at the Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, Pa. The Colonials completed the three-round tourney shooting a 59-over-par 923 (309-306-308), 45 strokes behind first-place Rhode Island. The victory was Rhode Island’s second straight A-10 title.
Xavier rallied from a four-stroke deficit entering Sunday’s final round to tie the Colonials, who finished in third place in last year’s A-10 tourney. Both teams finished seven strokes behind fourth place Temple. Virginia Tech and Duquesne placed second and third, respectively.
GW’s Darren Ressler led the way for the Colonials, as the junior shot a solid 10-over-par 226 (73-74-79), finishing the competition tied for 11th place overall. Rhode Island’s Michael Sims won medalist honors, completing the 54-hole event as the only golfer to shoot under par (3-under-par 213, 75-69-69). Lowly La Salle took last place, shooting 221 over-par, 207 strokes behind the Rams.
