Atlantic 10 Gymnast of the Week Devin McCalla scored a school record 39.425 at the Towson Invitational, leading the Colonials to victory in Sunday’s six-team tournament in Maryland. GW’s score of 194.375 beat second-place Towson University (193.050) as the Colonials took their revenge after losing twice to Towson last season.
McCalla won the balance beam with a score of 9.850 and had the second-highest score on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.925. The GW sophomore now holds the top three all-around record scores in GW history (39.300, 39.250)
Teammate Jessica Mantak placed sixth in the all-around, scoring 38.225. McCalla (9.950), Darden Wilee (9.925) and senior Erica Lewy (9.875) placed in the top five in the competitive floor exercise. Freshman Kacey Coyne tied for second place on the vault (9.750), while GW’s Jamie McNally tied for fourth place (9.725).
GW also defeated James Madison University, Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania and Temple. The Colonials return to the Smith Center this Friday to host James Madison.
