GW names alumnus chair of fund-raising effort
Trustee Joseph L. Brand accepted the position as chairman of the Centuries Campaign last Tuesday. His appointment follows Charles Manatt’s resignation. Manatt is going to serve as ambassador to the Dominican Republic.
Joe is a wonderful asset to the University, John Zeglis, chairman of the GW Board of Trustees, said in a University press release. We are very fortunate that he agreed to lead us in our fund-raising campaign.
The Centuries Campaign is an effort by GW to raise $500 million for its endowment by 2003. The campaign already has established almost 300 endowed funds and has supported new facilities on campus, including the School of Media and Public Affairs building, the Health and Wellness Center and Marvin Center renovations.
So far, the Centuries Campaign has raised $320 million.
Brand is a 1963 graduate of the GW Law School and was president of the GW Law Alumni Association from 1988 to 1990. He was an adjunct faculty member of the Law School from 1983 to 1993.
He has been a member of the GW Law School Board of Advisors since 1993. Brand also was a founding partner of the Patton Boggs law firm.
I benefited greatly from my education at GW, and I hope that the funds raised from the Centuries Campaign will help others, as well, said Brand, according to the press release. I am dedicated to making this campaign a great success.
