The Program Board and Marvin Center Governing Board candidates will appear on the same ballot and are maintaining an elections committee, separate from the Student Association.
In years past, the same Joint Elections Committee oversaw the SA, MCGB and PB elections. This year, after much debate, the MCGB and PB decided to have a separate committee after the SA created a new JEC charter that included a committee elected entirely by the SA Senate.
MCGB and PB used to have representatives on the JEC.The guidelines, established last week, are pending member approval.
Under the new guidelines, candidates for both organizations will be held to the same rules for elections Feb. 29 and March 1. The Student Association will hold elections on the same days but under the jurisdiction of a different committee.
Students will vote at one place, in one of the polling stations on campus for both our joint election and the SA election, said Michael Petron, chairman of MCGB.
Petron said the only stipulation in the new charter between the MCGB and the PB involves write-in candidates. Students who plan to vote for a candidate who is not on the ballot will be given a separate ballot to write in the person’s name.
